Newgate Apartments
2012 - Kelowna, BC
Newgate Apartments is a four-storey building with 49 supportive housing studio units to house men and women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and living with mental health and addiction issues, but who have begun to stabilize their lives. The project is funded by BC Housing through the Provincial Homelessness Initiative (PHI) program and built on land provided by the City of Kelowna.
The purpose of the project is to address core gaps in the existing continuum of housing and support services in Kelowna, such that priority will be given to low-income singles in core need (having to pay more than 30% of gross household income to rent in private market) eligible to move into the building.
