Penticton SPCA
2000 - Penticton, BC
The SPCA shelter in the industrial area of Penticton is a new 6,000 square foot shelter constructed in 2006 to replace inadequate facility past its prime. The project presents to the street as a simple and attractive one storey building constructed of robust materials of concrete block, metal cladding, glass and a warming wood roof.
The building is organized in three parts; a high ceiling central administration, storage and maintenance function is flanked by dog and cat wings on either side. Corridors with bright concrete floors and concrete block walls daylit by high clerestory windows. Above it all floats a natural wood ceiling; combining the practicality of durable and cleanable surfaces with the warmth of wood and natural light.
