The Community Animal Shelter in Dawson Creek was one of two ‘twin-shelters’ that were constructed in Dawson Creek and Castlegar. The facilities included shared dog apartments, communal indoor-outdoor areas for cats. small animal room, isolation & interview rooms & viewing areas. Animal spaces were giver priority locations at the building perimeter that provided direct access to sunlight, fresh air and controlled views to the outdoors.

The centres utilize a sophisticated ventilation system to reduce the spread of airborne disease, and a large multi-purpose room that can be used for training, education and other community uses. The two functions share a large multipurpose room with washroom and kitchenette for community, as well as shared use. The exterior cladding includes cement panels as well as concrete masonry and veneer stone at the public entries.
